Independent publishers will organize a new book festival to be present in the cultural program of Santiago. A new edition will bring together 158 national and international labels, as well as a strong presence of representatives of the literary scene from different regions of Chile.

An open and free access event where for four days the public will be able to find titles of fiction, poetry, non-fiction, social sciences, children’s and youth literature, comics, history, among other genres and themes that stand out in the Chilean and Latin Publishing industry independent american. . Furthermore, to contribute to the decentralization of the sector, this year the focus will be on increasing the Chilean regional presence, with the invitation to 11 authors and 40 publishers from different regions of the country.

“There are many editorial projects of great quality and creativity in other regions, therefore, at La Furia 2019, when we celebrate 10 years, we are committed to giving space to this work in Santiago. We first invite editors and support them with transportation and accommodation. This year, more than 40 publishers, writers and illustrators from the regions will arrive, who will be protagonists of the cultural program, participating in conferences, book presentations and workshops”, comments Simón Ergas, director of La Furia del Libro.

Thanks to the Cultural Reactivation Plan of the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage, this edition of La Furia will see the presence of the writers Daniela Catrileo, Cristóbal Gaete, Juan José Podestá, Roxana Miranda, Verónica Zondek, Ivonne Coñuecar , Óscar Barrientos and Marcelo Mellado and the illustrators Majo Puga, Claudio Romo and Joanna Mora, who will reflect on the independent literary and editorial panorama that has recently developed in the regions of Chile.

“Through the Cultural Reactivation Plan, we have underlined that the Ministry’s support for this type of instance is focused on enriching the cultural program on an equal basis and with the presence of all regions of the country. For this we appreciate the efforts of the fair to ensure the participation of publishing labels from regions other than the Metropolitan, which is completely new,” said the Minister of Cultures, Julieta Brodsky.

The cultural program will include more than 50 activities produced by the organization and participating publishers where the guests of La Furia del Libro 2022 will have a special role. Furthermore, this year there will be art workshops related to the world of books. For example, guest illustrator Joanna Mora, who recently published an adaptation of Baba Yaga (Cocorocoq Editoras), will hold an illustration workshop, as will artist Claudio Romo, an etching specialist.

Among the conversations, those of Daniela Catrileo, Ivonne Coñuecar and Roxana Miranda Rupailaf stand out, who will dialogue in “Mapuche imaginaries in Chilean narrative”, and “Abitare la provincia”, in which Marcelo Mellado and Cristóbal Gaete will reflect on writing from regions. The instance will also include family activities such as the presentation of children’s poems with Verónica Zondek and her book Hello Mouse with a Tail (Ediciones Libros del Cardo), or heritage walks at the GAM Center.

Finally, as part of the Literary Awards of the Ministry of Cultures, during the inauguration diplomas will be awarded to the publishing houses that published the winning works of the 2022 call, which mostly correspond to independent labels participating in La Furia del Libro
