Writer Verónica Zondek and young pianist Catalina Arteaga received municipal recognition for their artistic career in Valdivia

The Municipal Cultural Body of Valdivia has awarded the Proarte Joven Competition 2022, entrusting it this year to the pianist Catalina Arteaga. In parallel, it awarded the artistic career of the eminent national writer and poet, Verónica Zondek.

The ceremony presided over by the director of the Municipal Cultural Entity, Erwin Vidal, was attended by around ten people who accompanied and congratulated both artists for their successes.

“Culture is a way of living and vibrating in and with the world. It is also a way to share common space. I am thrilled to think that the City Council and its Cultural Corporation will do everything possible to continue to lay the bricks of this idea on top of each other”, underlined the writer Verónica Zondek during the awards ceremony.

Meanwhile, the young artist Catalina Arteaga, was grateful for the recognition of the Municipal Cultural Entity, thanking her family and her trainers.

“I’m grateful for this award, which encourages me to continue growing in music,” she said.

The Pro Arte Giovani award consisted of a galvano and 500,000 pesos, while the prize for artistic career was a galvano and 1 million pesos.


Arteaga began his musical studies at the age of 6 at the Conservatory of Music of the Universidad Austral de Chile, with professor Ximena Cabello. Today she is one of the pianists with the greatest artistic projection in Chile.

Throughout her career, Catalina has performed in Valdivia, Santiago, Chillán, Puerto Montt, Hanga Roa, among other cities, and has received numerous awards. For example, in 2013 she won first place in the South Austral Zone Children’s Piano Contest organized by ALAPP Zona Sur.

Subsequently, he received the “Artist of the Year” award from the Los Ríos Region, Contribution to Culture category, awarded by the Diario Austral de Valdivia.

In 2018, when she was only 15 years old, Catalina won first place in the X Flora Guerra National Piano Contest, organized by the Chopin Society, Chile, in the category up to 17 years old (first level), and in the compulsory work category with her interpretation of Chopin’s Nocturne Op. 48.

Meanwhile, Zondek was born in Santiago de Chile in 1953. He currently resides in Valdivia, the city to which he dedicated one of his books. Poet, translator and cultural manager. He majored in Art History at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He sits on several editorial boards.

She has attended many literary meetings, both at home and abroad, and has been the organizer or co-organizer of many others. You have served on the jury of competitions such as those of the Book Council, Fondart, Chilectra and Fernando Santiván.

It has been published in many different poetry anthologies in Chile and other countries. His poems and articles by him have appeared in both domestic and foreign literature magazines. He has ventured into visual and audiovisual poetic works, also collaborating with painters, engravers and photographers. And he presented some performative works.
